G. Donald Bartlett collection
at the Rangeley Outdoor Heritage Museum

These unnamed streamers by Carrie G. Stevens are from a wallet owned by G. Donald Bartlett. Mr. Bartlett was the publisher of Willimantic (CT) Chronicle, and a client of Wallace and Carrie Stevens. The streamers are now in the Rangeley Outdoor Heritage Museum, donated by his daughter, Joan Bartlett Fraser. The astute reader may note Carrie Stevens named 3 flies after Mr. Bartlett, the Don’s Delight, the Don’s Special, and the G. Donald Bartlett.

In addition to numerous typical patterns having a wing of grizzly over another colored hackle, there are several unusually constructed streamers in this collection. The GDB-17 has a marabou wing, the GDB-24 has a roof of woodduck flank over the wing and shoulders. The streamer labeled as GDB-10 has a wing of jungle cock flanked by gray hackles with a shoulder of loon. The streamer GDB-5 has a body of two colors of silk, and the tag and ribbing are notably absent. Also unusual are patterns GDB-21 and GDB-22 which have an Amherst pheasant tippet as the shoulder placed under a brown or furnace hackle, and a second smaller black shoulder feather over both.
